Some Things I Just Don't Understand

  • Why do people who say they are homeless and have no money for food and gas, drive to a rest area and sit outside the restrooms begging for money for "food and gas"?
  • Why do some drivers who are trying to merge onto a freeway drive along on the entrance ramp, seemingly oblivious to everything around them, until they "happen" to look in their side mirror and see that an 18-wheeler is off there rear bumper (meaning that the car is literally out in front of our rig) slam on their brakes, run in circles, scream and shout?!  All they needed to do was to push on that slender pedal on the right, increase their speed (not by much really) and MERGE WITH TRAFFIC! IT IS UNBELIEVEABLE THAT SOMETHING SO SIMPLE BECOMES SO COMPLICATED AND DANGEROUS. WHO GAVE THESE PEOPLE LICENSES ANYWAY? HAS ANYONE EXPLAINED THE MEANING OF THE WORD 'MERGE'? ARGH!!!!!!  Oh, excuse me, I digress.
  • Why does my body decide that it needs a bathroom after we just passed the last rest area in the world?
  • Why do we drive past a hundred rest areas during the day and when we're looking for a place to pull over and get some shuteye every rest area we pass says "no overnight parking allowed" or "no trucks allowed"?
  • Why do we drive past every restaurant imaginable and I dream of which one we'll be able to visit when we next stop for fuel and dinner -- and then the only places to eat are McDonalds or Subway?
  • Why does the truck breakdown just when we're getting in ahead of our delivery time and anticipating a full night of sleep or seeing a movie or doing anything except sitting in our truck?
  • Why does the weather turn icy and snowy when I'M DRIVING!
  • Why can't I figure out what day it is? What timezone we're in? What city we're in? What state we're in? What gear I'm in? What gear I'm suppose to be going to? How to get in or out of a truck stop? What's the speed limit? What I'm doing out here?
  • Why, oh, why, do we always enter or leave Los Angeles during rush hour?
