Our Grandson, Cameron Michael Foltz, Turns 11 on Sunday, Feb 21!

Our grandson, Cameron, has always had a unique way of saying things and so on his birthday I want to dedicate this blog to him...

  • Cameron talked very early, I can't remember how early, but way before he was two years old. I had a large Playskool boat that kids were suppose to use as a rocker and pretend they were on water. Cameron had spent the night and the next morning he dragged this boat into our bedroom and said, "Grandma, boat's go in the water." I said, "Yes, most boats do, but not this one." Cameron repeated, "Grandma, boat's go in the water." "Cameron, yes I know, but this is a pretend boat and we just pretend that this is in the water." This back and forth conversation went on for several more minutes when I thought he'd given up, until we got up to find him out on the back deck trying to put this boat into the kiddy pool out back. When we discovered him, he just looked at me and said, "Grandma, boat's go in the water!"

  • When Cameron was only 2 years old, as Steve's parents and Shannon and I sat around a beautifully set Thanksgiving dinner table at Steve and April's home and there was a lull in the conversation, he announced to everyone that "My daddy has ruined my mommy's life." Stunned silence followed for a few seconds, followed by the sputtering of April saying, "I have no idea where he came up with that one," and wave after wave of laughter.

  • At that same age of two, Cameron was looking at a globe and slowly turning it and then pointed his finger to a country in the Middle East and said, "This is Iraq."  The only thing we could come up with is that he must have seen a map of the country on TV news or something, but it was certainly unexpected from a two year old.

  • One time when Cameron was maybe three years old and he and I were shopping in Albertsons, Shannon came up and tried to scare him by whispering in his ear. Cameron didn't bat an eye, just turned his head and looked at his grandpa and said, "Grandpa, you de man!"
  • One day Cameron, his mom and his Grandma Carol were riding in the car and his mom mentioned that a gift store was open everyday except Christmas. Minutes went by when all of a sudden Cameron burst out with, "That makes me so mad!" "What?" asked his mom. "That store! What do they have against Christmas!" His mom explained that it meant that they were closed in honor of Christmas.  Cameron just said, "Oh."

  • A couple of summer's ago, Cameron's dad showed Cameron what a "burn off" was, as Steve smoked the tires of their vehicle. The next day, Cameron was with his mom at a garage sale run by a couple of little old ladies, when one of the ladies said to them, "Nice day." Cameron replied, "Nice day for a rip-off!" His mortified mother asked him what he thought he was doing saying something like that. Cameron said he thought that's what his dad had done the day before. His mom said, "Cameron, that's a burn-off, not a rip-off!"
So, Happy Birthday, our precious and wonderful grandson!  From the G's.
